Carnival in Grenada is one of the biggest celebrations of the entire year, and a movable feast.
It takes place on the second weekend of August, with the first weekend reserved for the Carriacou Regatta festival. It is next to impossible to find a flight here at that time, unless you have booked at least 6 months in advance. This is because there are so many Grenadians, visitors and extended family members returning just for this big event.
Yesterday we went to the Fish Friday in Gouyave.
We had not gone there in a couple of months, so were expecting that it had changed somewhat. Thankfully, it was just as good.
The food was still great, with a wide variety to choose from. The people are all quite friendly and pleasant to deal with and there is a well organised police presence, although they only have to help organise the parking and traffic.
We got there a little early, so it was not crowded and we had our choice of whatever we wanted.
We did not expect to see a lot of tourists there, but were a little surprised when the crowd started arriving and the majority of them were visitors. (If you like lobster or crabback, then I would suggest you get there early, as they tend to sell out quite quickly.)
