De Savary fever...

Seems as though every where you turn these days, you see or hear something about De Savary and his projects(Cinnamon Hill and Port Louis).

Walking around the place, you come across people wearing t-shirts with their logo on it and of course, the company cars with Mt. Cinnamon logos on the doors.

He is certainly not sitting around and letting the grass grow beneath his feet. His advertising department seems to be working overtime. Seems like almost every time you check the papers there is some article on him and the projects ... getting to be a bit trying now. I don't know how often they want to tell everyone about what a "Great Project" this is and how wonderful its going to be because it will put Grenada on the map (always thought we were already on the 'map', but maybe i was looking at the wrong one ;-).

Yeah, i know its all marketing, but it still gets on your nerves after a while. Almost every time you glance down by the Port Louis project, you notice something new going on (check out our webcam picture to see what i mean).

Been by the bar a couple of times (mostly being nosey and to see what new stuff they are building) and it still is a great place to go for a relaxing beer in the evenings. Quaint setting and the drinks are no more expensive than any of the hotels (except for the Spice Island Inn). The Victory Bar offers Everyday 5-8 pm a Happy Hour.

Must admit though, he is putting a few too many buildings in the area around the bar. Its starting to get a little crowded down there. Yes, of course he needs some office space to run the marina, but crowding it all in one area makes it slightly claustrophobic. They have been doing some piling along the waterfront in the lagoon and have cleaned up that unsightly junkyard in the corner, which used to be a real eyesore.I guess they will start laying out the jetties soon, but i think that some dredging will be needed. The lagoon has been collecting a lot of silt from the surrounding area over the years and some sections are quite shallow.

Lots of landscaping done at Cinnamon Hill and the place looks first rate. Its amazing how a couple of palms and flowering plants can make such a big difference, not to mention a coat of paint. Haven't seen the rooms, so can't say what they are like, but a few people whom we asked said they were tastefully decorated and one person said the paint work and overall finish was satisfactory. The bar down at the beach looks great, but deserted. I don't really know if it's there as a decoration or actually to attract customers.

Haven't seem any construction at the two other properties he bought, Edgecomb and Tufton Hall, but then we haven't been there recently.

	It will be interesting to see the changes on Grenada... Haven't been back in a long while, but I shudder to think of it changing too much or too quickly. Its appeal is in its being somewhat 'off the grid', not further onto it.

	I agree that GDA needs outside investment, but the powers that be, must insure that that the locals are not bypassed in a mad rush for so called improvements, for example Pandy beach has been used by the locals for many many years, why can they not do so now, why is it so difficult for a path way to be made which does not impeede on the development.

What an accomplishement, I thought people went to Grenada to experience Grenada, not Grenadians acting like what Peter thinks they should be. It is no wonder that he has been given many nickmnames on the island. Many of the older residents I talked to are not impressed, they see it as the selling off of thier country to outsiders, despite the improvements he has made. The construction company / equipment at Victory II seemed to be from out of the country. Why is that I wonder, is there not a company in Grenada that could have done the work ? Also, it is amazing on how fast he has been able to accomplish things. Seems like there is only one way that he is making that happen, $$$, and I can only guess where that is going to...
