New Webcam ProblemsPosted by Neil and Moni in webcam |
|
have been a little late in posting this week, mainly because we have been
exceptionally busy.
Finally got the new webcam...with zoom!. Lots of people have been asking if
we could give closeups of the lagoon development, so we decided to order in
a more sophisticated camera which has zoom capability.
Of course, setting it up would not be easy! No no!
If the box says easy setup, this actually means that you need a at least a
day and an engineering degree to get it to work as it should.
Before you say i should have read the instructions, if anyone has attempted to assemble any electronics lately, you would know that the instructions are either written in chinese, or in english which bears no resemblance to what we use in the real world...Anyway, finally got it turned on and plugged in.....no video! After reading the manual twice, notice that there is a piece of styrofoam stuck to the lens (its called a lens protector in the fine print on the box)...still no video. Installed all software which came with camera and rebooted (restarted everything)...still no video, but get a nice consistent error log on screen. Read manual AGAIN (just in case i missed something the first two times)....no help there. Visited the company website and did a search for the problem...no answer available. Apparently the problem i am having with the camera has never happened before. Eventually found an answer in an online forum not related to the company which built the thing...have to update the firmware on the camera (the software which comes installed in it). Download the new firmware and all instructions i could find on how to upload and test the software. Finally manage to get it uploaded and turned on...yippeee!!
It works!!!..Now, all i have to do is to mount it where there is a view.
Found a spot....power cable too short.
Lengthened the power cable and mounted the camera.....network cable too short....Get new LONGER ethernet cable and go to hook it up...no video!
Connector on end of cable has come off..!
By this time, Moni is wondering if i will ever get it working and the dogs are checking to see what all the grumbling is about. Got it set up and running...finally!....No video and no upload to the server.....hmmmmmm, can anything work as it should? Moni finally notices that i made a small mistake with the file path for the upload, so that end of it is finally working.....still no video! Second day on this thing and no end in sight. Still no video, but everything else works. Turning out to be an interesting week! We still working on it :(
