Our Grenada Blog

This is a blog of our life in Grenada, our thoughts on life and the way we view things around us, the way we see life through our sometimes rose colored glasses.

Stumbled out of bed saturday...actually, get a cold nose in the nether regions from the doggies who feel that because the sun is up, we should not be in bed....this is around 6am, sometimes earlier when they think the snoring is disturbing them.

There is no alarm clock made which can come close to a cold dog nose, for snapping you awake in the morning..

Get ready to head down the road around 9...Nick & Lisa's our first stop.

(Nice little donut shop at the Marquis Complex in Grand Anse and one place we try never to miss.) I don't think we could do without stopping by there on a saturday for breakfast. There is something about the place which suits us.

Nick's is a great place to hang out on mornings. Lots of friends stop by for the morning java and obligatory insult ;-)(well worth hanging out there for an hour....brightens your day).

They are open all week and offer some excellent sandwiches and a gyro which is well worth the wait. Had a bagel ham and cheese and two muffins to chase it and Moni had a naked donut with coffee. Before you get any ideas, a naked donut is a plain one.

This saturday we headed downtown to look for some shoes and to check out the new shopping center next to the cruise ship mall....

The new food mart didn't have much variety...well, thats not completely true. It was not very large, which probably explains why they didn't have that much. Its seems as though some Chinese have something to do with it. Saw some stuff that was made in China (washing machine etc.)Yeah, i know just about everything these days is made there, but this was a little more than usual. They seemed to be doing a brisk business though.
Sometimes i think the Chinese are slowly taking over the world, one shopping center at a time ;-(
ImageAlso wanted to pass by the market (got a few photos as well). After knocking about some of the other shops (Moni got some picture frames), headed back down Grand Anse to do some more grocery shopping. (Convenient parking).

You can immediately tell that most of the medical students have returned, just by looking at the shelves in the mall. They're empty!

That wasn't the worst though. When we were at the cashier, got a good shock when the stuff was totalled. Yikes! What we bought would fit in 3 bags...but we were paying almost $100 for each. Its safe to say that prices have gone up...quite a good bit, too. Before, it was only a few items, but now its just about everything.

The afternoon is for hashing. This saturday was a hash day...don't know what a hash is? Check out this site: www.grenadahash.com
This one was in Crochu, by Cabier Vision.
Was a great walk along the trails in the area and we had a fantastic turnout.
Biggest problem with hashing is shoes....yes, shoes.
Have gone through several pairs over the years and here is a bit of hard earned wisdom....Don't buy the ones advertised for hiking! Invariably, the bottom falls off. Get the cheapest pair you can find. That way, when it finally needs retiring, or burying, depending on how well it stood up to some of our hashes, you know you got your money's worth.

ImageBy the way, the dog house is finally finished!

Yes! Finished!! (fireworks, marching band, barbecue party)Its big enough to hold all 3 dogs and me! Yeah yeah, i know what you are thinking, thats my new home and i just haven't admitted it as yet...Sure ;-)

For those of you interested ingetting one built, i can recommend our athletic carpenter (please note that dogs are not to be let loose when he is working and you will have to measure the dog yourself).

Now, if the dogs will only use the darn thing!
