Our Grenada Blog

This is a blog of our life in Grenada, our thoughts on life and the way we view things around us, the way we see life through our sometimes rose colored glasses.

Rough Seas

Grand Anse Fri. 21st March
The weather this year is quite unusual.

By this, i mean that the dry season has started pretty late and we are still getting the occasional shower or two.

You would not think so to look at the outskirts of the island, because everything is brown and dry and looks as though it has been that way for a couple of months. In fact, it has only been this dry for about 1 month.

It is Easter and one of the things we normally expect are the easter breezes. For this Good Friday, it has been very still.

Yes, we are getting some winds, so the kites are flying, but not the gusts which you would normally expect. In fact, we can hear them from where we live....sounds like a mad mosquito on steroids.

The last couple of days we have had some pretty rough seas, mostly due to a cold front in the area. If you look down into the Lagoon, you would notice that all the small fishing boats from along the west coast, have moved there for safety.

The swells have been big enough to stop a couple of cruise ships from berthing up on the cruise ship terminal.

The waves were coming over the breakwater by the terminal and flooding the Sendall tunnel. While it has calmed down some since yesterday, it is still rough enough that you can still do some body surfing on Grand Anse beach.

We drove around today to take a look and also some photos....even a little video. As you can see, the beach is practically deserted (not surprising), and choppy. The good news is that it is getting calmer and the overcast and light rain is doing a lot to help.
