Road works...Posted by Neil and Moni in traffic, road |
|
Was stuck in traffic again today trying to get through the paddock area.
NAWASA has been digging up the road again, this time to install water mains to connect with the pipes already installed in the Springs area.
To say things are a mess right now is putting it mildly.
Forget about passing that route...With all the machinery and holes in the ground, there is no chance of getting through during working hours.
Of course, signs are posted, with my favorite being the one which says..'Expect Delays'...(Duh!)along with the obligatory 'Men at Work' (apparently no women are allowed while the men make a mess of things).
Its always refreshing to come across the grammatically correct..'Heavy Equipments' and the thought provoking..'No Entry' (which is usually knocked to the side by cars going both ways.
The 'Slow Men at Work' needs no explaining...and is usually followed by 'Go Slow'.
Honestly, i think they place the signs as obstacles, rather than actual help to motorists. Occasionally you come across a blank sign...maybe you are supposed to post your own message?? Not too sure.....
If you happen to come across just the base and post for a sign, it probably means that the sign at the top wants nothing to do with the whole business and has left for parts unknown.. I actually got pulled over by the police once for something like that. Apparently the sign used to say 'No right turn'....well, thats what the officer said... but was nowhere to be found.
Needless to say, that conversation would have made any comedian happy.
Probably the most confusing are the 'No Entry' signs to all three entrances going into that area, from which cars are always leaving...maybe they are flying in...(that explains why the birds avoid the area...too much traffic!).
Kind of sorry for people who live in the general area.
Of course, once the roads have been dug up to lay the pipes, its usually months before they do any repairs. They are supposed to be widening and paving that section to join it up with the rest, but i think it will be a couple of months before its opened to traffic again.(I guess that explains the 'Slow Men at Work'....;-)

I recently came across a sign on a back road in Virginia. It said "CAUTION HILL BLOCKS VIEW" |
