Yesterday i visited Epping Forest to take some new photos of the exterior for their website.

It is a charming place and they have done their best to keep the old Grenadian plantation house look. The house of course is in excellent shape and you simply cannot compare it to what was there at the beginning.

Dave & Jackie, the owners, have done a simply amazing job of rebuilding it.

They had visited Grenada in 2001 and fell in love with the place. After searching the island, they came across this old plantation house which was literally falling apart.

Most of the buildings like this have been demolished or simply fallen to ruin over the years, as families lost or abandoned the old plantations. This particular house was part of a cocoa plantation in St.Davids, can't remember the family name which used to own it but when it was cleared, they found that it had some amazing views down the valley and you were even able to see the Atlantic coast.

Shortly after buying the place, they moved down with all their stuff and started rebuilding.
I saw the place when they first bought it and thought to myself that they had to be kidding! The very first thing i would have done was to make a bonfire with what was there.... i simply did not think it was worth saving.

Regardless, they took their time and rebuilt it even better than it was during its prime, adding a pool and clearing some of the old plantation trees to make a lawn.

This was their first time living in the Caribbean, but they were persistent and took their time, doing their best to keep it as close to the original theme as possible.

They have turned it into an 'old style' Caribbean guesthouse, offering bed and breakfast.

What made it even better, was that they had owned and antique furniture store and brought in furnishings, which just suited the style of building and kept the 'feel' of the plantation house alive.

As a place to just lay back and relax, especially on the large comfortable patio, it is simply hard to beat. If you visit, you will get the chance to see one of the hidden gems of this island.

This is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. How did I miss it when I was looking at lodgings in Grenada? Next time...
I honestly can't understand why anyone would stay in an all-inclusive or other big resort. This is gorgeous! The guest comments say it all. Keep up the good work.
