Dog House......

Posted by Neil and Moni in priceslumberhousedogscarpenter

ImageWe decided it was time to get a dog house built....no, not for me, for Lucky and Balu.

Most of the time, people simply find a crate or box, cut a door in it and voila!, instant dog house (thank goodness the dog doesn't care what it looks like).

Anyway, Our dogs are having one custom built....that means you find a photo of one you like,(yeah, this photo...........) show it to someone who knows how to handle a hammer and saw, hand over your wallet and hope that he measured the dog first.

That last part proved to be a little difficult as the carpenter is mortally afraid of dogs....Anyway, I measured the dog..'twice'.
O.k, so the truck with the lumber didn't arrive for over a week.....Turns out that the carpenter didn't even buy the stuff he would need, so of course, the truck had nothing to bring (this is after half dozen calls or more, the going theme of which was yeah yeah, the truck will be there after lunch, for sure).
(I didn't say it was going to be easy, did i?)

Carpenter shows up on monday, still no lumber, but at least he showed up......Couldn't work, so we went to the lumber yard to get what we needed...Left him there (big mistake). Called later to say he had a few loose ends to take care of and would be there on wednesday, but don't worry, the truck with the lumber will arrive after lunch....hope springs eternal. (Should i even bother to say that the truck didn't show?...Well, it didn't.)
He shows up with the bill....$730 YIKES!! I thought we were building a dog house, not a garage!...Yes, i know the cost of material has gone up, but .....Anyway, he was ready to start work, which i guess is a small blessing.

Where is the stuff???....'The truck will definitely have it here by wednesday'..., so, he decided to do another odd job first (sealing a wall in the downstairs apartment, but that is another story..) Of course, he had to leave by 2:30pm....to pick up his daughter....The good thing is that we are paying by the job, not the day, and are not in a rush to get it done (wouldn't help if we were in a rush anyway..;-)

Leave for work tuesday morning, Moni takes off with a friend for the day. He said he is starting on wednesday, so we assume he isn't going to be here tuesday...(sounds logical, doesn't it). I come home at around 11:45 to find him sitting outside the gate looking a bit frazzled, so i asked what the problem was.

Turns out he came in around 9am, saw that the front door was closed, didn't see any dogs, so let himself in and headed downstairs to start work on the wall. Found out he forgot something in his car and started walking back to the gate to get it when he noticed that two of our dogs were looking at him from our back verandah - not a problem, he assumes, as the front door is locked. However, we normally leave our back gate open so that they can go wherever they want, after all, this is for security. (For those of you who don't know, Lucky is a German Shepard and Schnecke is an English Mastiff (160lbs, but an absolutely sweet disposition).

From what i managed to get out of him, the 100m sprint and high jump in the Olympics is for beginners. He broke at least two records and may have started a new sport by outrunning both our dogs going uphill and clearing a 5 ft iron fence. Apparently our dogs were so stunned, they didn't bother chasing all the way to the gate, but kept sneaking looks around the corner of the house in the hope that he decided to come back in to play........

Today, wednesday, he started work on the dog house.
So far, its actually turning out well....at least there is frame....

Don't worry, there will definitely be a photo or two so you can compare the finished product with the original photo....(Maybe should start a poll on how many people think they will look alike...) For all the hammering and sawing going on outside, you would think its a major construction....not on the same scale as the Lagoon project, but you never know.

In case you are wondering, the pool arrives at the end of the month...hopefully. Yes, the doggies are going to have a pool!

Just think, wet excited dogs running in and out of the house...

Yes, this would be a normal day by us.....visitors have to worry about being trampled, not eaten ;-)

Make sure it's not so big that Monja can banish you to it. Also, sounds like you'll need to make the dogs get a job so they can pay you rent to help defray the cost. The delays were funny/sad comments about the way some people run their businesses. I've been trying for four months to get my refrigerator fixed. Nobody even returns calls now. I'd be starving if I ran my business that way.
