Our Grenada Blog
This is a blog of our life in Grenada, our thoughts on life and the way we view things around us, the way we see life through our sometimes rose colored glasses.
Green flash - photo from wikipedia One of the little things which seem to elude lots of people, is the green flash...or, as Moni would put it, the green blip.
Personally, i have seen it a few dozen times....well, its either the green flash or i was seeing green spots after staring at the sunset waiting for the green flash.
Moni had not seen one until about a year ago.
Her first reaction when i told her about it was 'Yeah, right! Pull the other leg! ''Only after a few rum punches!'
She had never seen one. [...]
click to enlarge Moni was walking into the kitchen the other night when she was nearly attached and dragged off by this interloper.
Ever had something uglier than a bloodhound which didn't get enough sleep, stake its claim to your home?
Well, here it is!
Not too sure if its a spider, beetle or something the dogs dug up, but its BIG!
Any ideas? Two suggestions so far are some type of beetle.....? and a scorpion spider.....suggestions welcome!
By the way, we showed it the door...forcibly!
Epping Forest - click to enlarge Yesterday i visited Epping Forest to take some new photos of the exterior for their website.
It is a charming place and they have done their best to keep the old Grenadian plantation house look.
The house of course is in excellent shape and you simply cannot compare it to what was there at the beginning.
Dave & Jackie, the owners, have done a simply amazing job of rebuilding it.
They had visited Grenada in 2001 and fell in love with the place. After searching the island, they came across this old plantation house which was literally falling apart. [...]
have been a little late in posting this week, mainly because we have been
exceptionally busy.
Finally got the new webcam...with zoom!. Lots of people have been asking if
we could give closeups of the lagoon development, so we decided to order in
a more sophisticated camera which has zoom capability.
Of course, setting it up would not be easy! No no!
If the box says easy setup, this actually means that you need a at least a
day and an engineering degree to get it to work as it should.
Before you say i should have read the instructions, if anyone has attempted
to assemble any electronics lately, you would know that the instructions are
either written in chinese, or in english which bears no resemblance to what
we use in the real world... [...]
The Little Dipper Today we thought we would tell you about one of our favourite places to eat local food and to relax :-)
The little Dipper in Woburn is just an amazing place. The first time I saw it, I thought wow that little wooden house is cute and has an amazing view.
Later on, I realized it was a tiny restaurant.
People had told us before that we should try the Little Dipper because the food is very good, but somehow we never managed to go there. [...]
click to enlarge We had a nice soggy day yesterday and today is shaping up to be one as well.
This amazing sunset was the reward for yesterdays rain...lets see if todays is as good or better ;-)
Oct 07 - click to enlarge There is so much talk about the lagoon/Port Louis project that we thought that everyone might like to see how it has been progressing.
Eventually, we might provide a slideshow of the entire thing, but here are a couple of photos from the start of the project. As you can see, there has already been lots of changes with more to come. They have filled in a section and the difference is easy to spot. You can see why the Willie Redhead Foundation has been voicing their concern that the development is making irreparable changes to the natural beauty of the lagoon. [...]
Sunday we decided to go looking for a place to set the next hash, again ....
Of course, we were looking for places slightly off the beaten track, which would be challenging and fun.
Along the way we came across a few things which were little finds that most people tend to miss.
For instance, if you ever wondered which came first, the chicken or the egg, we can definitely say it was the eggplant..;-)
All joking aside, just keeping your eyes open for the unusual will get you photos like these.... (banana, flower). [...]
Prickly Bay Waterside Development Moni and i were talking about the many developments which are happening around the island right now and what we realised, and what really disappointed us, was that Grenada is slowly losing its uniqueness.
The developers have descended on the island and their only interest is in the bottom line...they are here to make money. (Of course! They want a return on their investment.)
The government has literally turned a blind eye to what is happening, giving everyone the placebo that these developments will attract visitors, provide employment and everyone will benefit.
At what cost? [...]
Sunday we decided to go searching for a location to set a hash.
For those of you who don't know what a hash is (sorry, has no relation to hashish, but you never know what you might come across while hashing), you can check out the Grenada Hash House Harriers site.
O.K, for the facts...Grenada is supposed to about 133 sq miles in area...However, with all the hills and valleys, it is actually closer to 500. That leaves a lot of real estate in which to knock about in, and all of it covered in fabulous lush greenery and tropical rain forest....that basically mean that there is a lot of bush. [...]
